I hope everyone is enjoying the summer. As we start thinking about getting back to school, I want to update you on what the PTO has been up to.
As you may know, Margaret McNamara (former PTO president) decided to move her son out of Edison so her kids can be at the same school next year. A tough decision, but one I’m sure many Edison families can understand. As first vice president, I stepped into the presidency in accordance with PTO bylaws. I’m getting acclimated to my new role and I'm excited for the coming school year.
While Margaret’s departure leaves a big hole in our fundraising team, the good news is it’s a great time to get involved as we rebuild. We need enthusiastic and well-organized people to chair committees and help fundraise. We DO NOT expect single–handed efforts! We really want to develop a collaborative team, willing to work toward well-defined goals.
This year the PTO will need all the help we can get as we work closely with the administration and the LSC to develop strategies to fill the gaps left by CPS budget cuts. To that end, the PTO is pleased to announce that we’ve agreed to fund the following with money we raised for technology over the past year and a half:
- The 2013-14 stipend for the Technology Coordinator. In this role, Ms. Doyle will be working extra hours to ensure that our investment in technology is maintained and used to its fullest capacity.
- Two classroom computer carts with 35 chrome books each.
- Nineteen iPad 4s, a cart and 33 heavy-duty covers to complete the all-school iPad cart.
Finally, one of the main goals of the new PTO board is to improve communication. We’re working this summer to get systems in place – website, social media, e-newsletter, etc. – to keep you better informed about the PTO and the school. This is the first of many (but not too many) messages you will get from us!
